Bethany’s Story Q&A
Janet McKee, a Holistic Health Counselor, wanted to share with the world some of the benefits of a plant-based diet that she has encountered. Then she encountered Bethany, a young woman who’s vegan diet resulted in the restoration of movement after she had been paralyzed by medication. This film’s EcoSalon Free Film Screening of McKee’s Bethany’s Story takes the viewers on the young woman’s road to recovery, including her decision to follow a vegan diet and the effect of that diet on her health. McKee took a moment to share about her story in advance of the screening.
GLN: Tell me about Bethany’s Story.
JM: Bethany’s Story is a beautiful and inspiring film about a young girl who had become paralyzed from a bad reaction to medication and after seeing many doctors and specialists for 3.5 years, she was told she would never walk again. One day she read about eating a raw vegan diet and decided to give it a try. Much to everyone’s surprise, she immediately began to get movement in her feet and then her legs and within a few months, is walking normally again. We feel that this is an example of the healing power of food that is far too dramatic to be ignored.
GLN: What most stood out to you about Bethany’s situation?
JM: As a certified Holistic Health Counselor myself, I see people resolve many health challenges, including heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune disorders and even some cancers, when they incorporate a plant-based diet, but I never knew that paralysis was something that could be affected by food. I really felt that this showed how powerful food choices are and decided to use the story to help inspire others.
GLN: What is the biggest change that Bethany made to her lifestyle?
JM: Bethany went on a raw food vegan diet after so many other options failed. This enabled her to begin walking again which opened up her world to better social and professional opportunities that may have never been available to her before.
GLN: How did Bethany decide that the vegan lifestyle was the answer?
JM: She read online about people with MS, etc….but wasn’t sure it was the answer until she herself saw the amazing results.
GLN: Has this film changed your personal perspective in any way?
JM: I have gained more confidence than ever before in what I teach – that the right food heals the body. I’ve become even more passionate and committed to wanting to help others and this new source of inspiration has fuelled my desire to share this great news with the world.
GLN: What do you want the audience to take away from this film?
JM: I hope the audience becomes inspired to begin to make better choices with food and lifestyle. I hope that it becomes crystal clear to the viewing audience that it is PLANT foods that heal the body and that they begin to want to learn more. Inspiration is the first step to helping others make positive changes and this film is a key tool to create the desire in others.
GLN: Since releasing Bethany’s Story, have you had people approach you with similar stories?
JM: We have had so many people tell us how the film has changed their lives or some who too have had amazing recoveries from illness when they changed their diet. Because of this, we are beginning a “Share Your Story” campaign at SanaView where real people share with other people how they too were suffering and what they did to find ways to live happier and healthier. We want to build a community of people sharing and helping each other to live a better life. It is all so amazing and I feel such gratitude in my heart to have the opportunity to be part of a movement where we will Heal The World!SHARE THIS
