Here are some choices of equipment when mixing different ingredients together: you can either use a food processor, under the supervision of an adult, or a mortar and pestle. A mortar is a bowl shaped container made of a hard wood, marble, pottery, or stone.  Before you decide which one to choose, go to a store and try them all. Some people prefer marble because marble will not absorb odors from foods, such as garlic. Marble is very hard and provides an excellent grinding surface, and it is easy to clean and maintain. My preference is for ceramic mortar and pestles because they do not stain, retain food odors, or are susceptible to damage from acidic foods. The high-quality versions also have convenient pouring spouts, which are really handy.

The pestle is a bat-shaped tool that is used to grind inside the mortar (bowl) and pulverize grains, herbs, and other food substances, as well as medicines.  I think you will have a lot more fun using the mortar and pestle; although, I am leaving that choice up to you as the supervising adult as some children love the food processor.
